The Security Essentials course served as an ideal starting point, providing a comprehensive introduction to cybersecurity concepts. It offered a 30,000-foot view, enabling me to gain a high-level understanding and determine the focus for further study. Additionally, I built on the foundation of Comptia Security+ training with shared ideas.

📅 Booking the LPI Security Essentials Exam

To set a deadline, I purchased an ‘In-Person’ exam voucher through Pearson VUE. Opting for a proctored exam at Pearson VUE marked my first in-person experience. The voucher, obtained for $140.00 CAD from the Linux Professional Institute Portal, possibly missed a discount opportunity.

📚 Course and Materials

For the LPI Security Essentials course, I enrolled in David Clinton Udemy course. Supplementary learning included the use of Anki smart flashcard software for efficient and progressive learning.

🧐 Thorough Preparation

My preparation included watching 100% of Jason Dion’s course, including quizzes and practice tests. I enhanced learning with a practical approach, involving hands-on practice in a virtual machine and periodic flashcards on the phone.

📆 Day of the LPI Security Essentials Exam

I chose the Pearson Professional Centre at the Toronto College of Technology as the exam location. The high-security environment, reminiscent of the first Mission Impossible scene, provided a unique challenge. Despite initial discomfort with the unfamiliar test environment and lighting, the provision of earplugs was a nice touch.

As a proud owner of the LPI Security Essentials Certification, I acknowledge its complexity beyond the name. Emphasizing fundamental readiness before pursuing the Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC), I am proud of the genuine effort invested in understanding, not just cramming.
